Who we are
About Stripe
Stripe is a financial infrastructure platform for businesses. Millions of companies—from the world’s largest enterprises to the most ambitious startups—use Stripe to accept payments, grow their revenue, and accelerate new business opportunities. Our mission is to increase the GDP of the internet, and we have a staggering amount of work ahead. That means you have an unprecedented opportunity to put the global economy within everyone’s reach while doing the most important work of your career.
About the team
The Internal Identity Team's mission is to protect Stripe by providing primitives that enable secure user access at Stripe. We build tools that enable Stripe to enforce strong authentication and authorization controls, while providing a seamless user experience for Stripes to do their best work. Our team is responsible for core identity, authentication, and authorization systems critical to Stripe's security infrastructure.
What you’ll do
As a Frontend Engineer on the Internal Identity Team, you'll play a pivotal role in implementing core principles of usable security within Stripe’s internal security tooling. We are seeking a candidate who enjoys working in all parts of the technology stack, but is especially excited about building delightful and intuitive user experiences. You'll work on projects that directly impact Stripe's security posture and employee productivity, driving initiatives that enable a world-class user experience for Stripe’s internal security products.
While prior experience with Security is definitely a plus, it's not a requirement for this role. So if you're eager to jump into a new challenge and gain experience in Security, this could be the perfect opportunity for you!
Responsibilities
- Design and develop modern, responsive web applications for identity and access management systems, with a focus on user experience
- Participate in the product development process end-to-end, from ideation and design to implementation and user feedback
- Implement best practices in frontend development, including component-driven development, responsive design, and integration with Stripe’s design pattern library
- Contribute to the full stack development of identity and access management systems, including design and implementation of core APIs, services, and data-flows in Go
- Debug production issues across services and multiple levels of the stack, from the frontend to the storage layer
- Uphold Stripe’s high standards for engineering and product quality and mentor less experienced team members to do the same
Who you are
We’re looking for someone who meets the minimum requirements to be considered for the role. If you meet these requirements, you are encouraged to apply. The preferred qualifications are a bonus, not a requirement.
Minimum requirements
- 3+ years of experience in full-time frontend web development roles
- Hands-on experience building web applications in modern frontend technologies (React, TypeScript, HTML5, and CSS3)
- Experience with modern frontend unit testing and integration testing frameworks
- Familiarity with RESTful APIs and modern frontend build tools
- Basic understanding of backend technologies and database systems
- Strong communication skills and ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams
Preferred qualifications
- Previous experience with security is beneficial, but not required
- Interested in the field of usable security, excited about the intersection of security, user experience, and frontend development
- Experience with UI/UX design principles and tools, as well as design research methodologies
- Familiarity with the Go programming language
- Takes pride in shepherding projects from ideation through to completion, where completion often involves partnering with engineering teams to carefully roll out changes that affect their workflows
This role is available either in an office or a remote location (typically, 35+ miles or 56+ km from a Stripe office).
Office-assigned Stripes spend at least 50% of the time in a given month in their local office or with users. This hits a balance between bringing people together for in-person collaboration and learning from each other, while supporting flexibility about how to do this in a way that makes sense for individuals and their teams.
A remote location, in most cases, is defined as being 35 miles (56 kilometers) or more from one of our offices. While you would be welcome to come into the office for team/business meetings, on-sites, meet-ups, and events, our expectation is you would regularly work from home rather than a Stripe office. Stripe does not cover the cost of relocating to a remote location. We encourage you to apply for roles that match the location where you currently or plan to live.
The annual US base salary range for this role is $150,500 - $225,700. For sales roles, the range provided is the role’s On Target Earnings ("OTE") range, meaning that the range includes both the sales commissions/sales bonuses target and annual base salary for the role. This salary range may be inclusive of several career levels at Stripe and will be narrowed during the interview process based on a number of factors, including the candidate’s experience, qualifications, and location. Applicants interested in this role and who are not located in the US may request the annual salary range for their location during the interview process.
Additional benefits for this role may include: equity, company bonus or sales commissions/bonuses; 401(k) plan; medical, dental, and vision benefits; and wellness stipends.
