Heartbeat Health is the leading virtual-first cardiovascular care company in the country, providing patients with convenient, high-quality heart care through a combination of telemedicine, diagnostics, and virtual care programs. By leveraging real-time data and AI-powered insights, Heartbeat Health empowers providers and patients with personalized treatment plans, reducing hospitalizations and improving long-term heart health outcomes. Heartbeat Health is redefining how cardiovascular care is delivered in the digital age, led by our medical group of cardiologists, advanced practitioners, nurses, and care coordinators.
Heartbeat Health is seeking a Senior Software Engineer to help drive the evolution of our virtual cardiovascular care platform. In this role, you’ll work across core systems, shaping how data, services, and clinical workflows come together to support patients and providers nationwide. You’ll collaborate with engineers across the stack, contribute to architectural decisions, and take ownership of high‑impact technical initiatives that advance our platform’s reliability, scalability, and performance.
This position is ideal for someone who enjoys solving complex systems problems, thrives in an environment with meaningful autonomy, and wants to build technology that directly improves patient care.

What You'll Do:

  • Design and evolve critical platform components that support care delivery, data interoperability, and operational automation.
  • Develop and refine APIs and service interfaces that enable seamless communication across internal systems and external partners.
  • Collaborate with product, clinical, and operations teams to translate real‑world needs into technical solutions that deliver measurable value.
  • Write high‑quality, well‑tested code with a focus on maintainability, observability, and long‑term system health.
  • Influence architectural direction by contributing to design discussions, evaluating new technologies, and guiding system improvements.
  • Support a culture of engineering excellence through mentorship, thoughtful code reviews, and a commitment to continuous improvement.

What You Bring:

  • 5+ years of experience building and maintaining production software systems (within a healthcare environment).
  • Strong proficiency in a modern, statically typed language such as Rust, Go, or Kotlin (our platform heavily uses Rust).
  • Experience designing and implementing APIs and working with documentation frameworks like OpenAPI.
  • Solid understanding of distributed systems, relational databases (PostgreSQL), and cloud environments (AWS).
  • Familiarity with service‑oriented architectures and modular system design.
  • Experience with CI/CD pipelines, containerization (Docker, Kubernetes), and monitoring/observability tools.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively across teams.
  • A pragmatic, execution‑focused approach to solving problems.

What We'd Love:

  • Experience in healthcare, regulated environments, or clinical data systems.
  • Familiarity with health data standards (FHIR, HL7, SMART on FHIR).
  • Hands‑on experience with Rust frameworks and tooling (Actix, Serde, Diesel, Tokio).
  • Interest in AI/ML applications or integrating intelligent tooling into platform services.

Why You'll Love it Here:

  • We are mission-driven: we're revolutionizing the way cardiovascular care is delivered
  • We are fast-paced & agile: we move quickly, iterate often, and value experimentation
  • We are remote-first: flexibility, autonomy, and trust are at the core of how we operate
  • We care about diversity: diversity allows us to build an excellent patient experience
  • We are an equal opportunity employer: we do not discriminate on the basis of race, religion, color, national origin, gender, sexual orientation, age, marital status, veteran status, or disability status
