Today, Gusto offices in Denver, San Francisco, and New York serve more than 300,000 businesses nationwide.

Our mission is to create a world where work empowers a better life, and it starts right here at Gusto. That’s why we’re committed to building a collaborative and inclusive workplace, both physically and virtually. Learn more about our Total Rewards philosophy.

About the Role:

Gusto seeks an experienced Product leader to oversee our HR Product suite and team within the People Platform. As a key member of Gusto's Product leadership team, you will assume end-to-end responsibility for all HR-related products and services. This is a critical area for Gusto, our current customers, and our future vision. 300,000+ customers rely on our HR suite today to attract, hire, develop, and retain successful teams, and we are just getting started. You will directly lead the product team and indirectly oversee various cross-functional departments, collaborating to deliver a seamless experience. Your role will encompass building a dynamic team, a thriving business, and a suite of tools that will be adored by our customers and ultimately help them succeed.

If you are a customer-centric builder who thrives on making a substantial impact within a high-growth organization, we would be thrilled to hear from you!

About the Team:

Our HR Product team enables small and medium-sized businesses (SMBs) to attract, hire, develop, and retain successful teams. We aim to create user-friendly team management products that seamlessly integrate with Gusto's larger People Platform, with a mix of digital and human supported solutions. We help customers at numerous stages, from new employers who might be hiring their first team members and lack expertise and confidence all the way to growing enterprises. By using Gusto’s HR Product suite, customers can avoid the need for complex and costly HRIS systems, avoid hiring expensive HR staff and ultimately realize peace of mind to confidently lead their teams within the platform they already use for Payroll and Benefits.

Our numerous products and services, some of which are not yet public, are designed to work together within the HR product team include:

  • Applicant Tracking Systems
  • Learning Management
  • Performance Management
  • Hiring Tools (Background Checks, Employee Handbook creation, Offer letters, etc.)
  • Access to human support when needed

Here’s what you’ll do day-to-day:

  • Take ownership of the business and our HR product suite from end to end.
  • Create a long-term vision and strategy that defines the big HR problems we can solve well with durable competitive advantage.
  • Lead and develop a cross-functional team of Engineers, Product Managers, Designers, and Data Scientists (EPDD). Additionally, you will work closely with a team of HR specialists who work directly with customers.
  • Understand customer pain points, devise solutions, and then iterate through prototyping and frequent, successful product launches.

Here’s what we're looking for:

  • Possess 10+ years of hands-on product development leadership or General Manager (GM) experience within an R&D team in a modern technology business.
  • Direct prior product leadership over solutions focused on human capital management (HCM).
  • A proven track record of driving impact with both 0 to 1 and at-scale products within a multi-product company.
  • Successfully built and led operationally intensive products with a meaningful offline/operational component to deliver the value proposition.
  • Builder at heart with strong product sense and POV on how to lead highly effective product development teams. Not afraid to get deep into the details and hands-on coach and lead our EPDD teams.
  • Display strong strategic thinking skills, capable of evaluating multiple paths, making effective tradeoffs, and articulating a clear and compelling forward plan.
  • The ability to tell a compelling story that drives alignment and inspires action.
  • Strong collaboration skills; ability to quickly build trust.
  • A passion for helping small businesses.

Our cash compensation amount for this role is targeted at $214,000 to $246,000 in Denver & most major metro locations, and $251,000 to $289,000 for San Francisco, New York, & Seattle. Final offer amounts are determined by multiple factors including candidate location, experience and expertise and may vary from the amounts listed above.

Gusto has physical office spaces in Denver, San Francisco, and New York City. Employees who are based in those locations will be expected to work from the office on designated days approximately 2-3 days per week (or more depending on role). Note: The San Francisco office expectations encompass both the San Francisco and San Jose metro areas.

When approved to work from a location other than a Gusto office, a secure, reliable, and consistent internet connection is required.
