We build tools that are used by thousands of development teams around the world including the BBC, Shopify, Adobe, and, of course, ourselves. We want someone like you to work on the human interfaces and platform APIs for the Chromatic product, taking features from ideation to shipped in production. We are looking for someone who is equally passionate about delightful customer experiences and amazing system architecture. You an expert on the back-end, and have a wealth of front-end knowledge too. We maintain a NextJS application supported by MongoDB/GraphQL on the back-end. We want someone who loves building front-ends and APIs that customers can take for granted.

This is the perfect job for someone who is willing to dive into complex problems and derive simple, high-quality and delightful solutions.


Required Timezone: Pacific Standard Time (PST) to Eastern Standard Time (EST)

Responsibilities

  • Build features from start-to-finish in our TypeScript / React / Next.js / GraphQL / MongoDB stack.

  • Work closely with product to help refine specifications and provide technical guidance.

  • Collaborate with other engineering teams at the company to take full-stack features to production.

  • Monitor and continuously improve our systems to ensure we maintain a standard of quality and can effectively respond to operational incidents.

  • Participate in the engineering team's on-call rotation (mostly during business hours, thanks to our distributed team).

Requirements

  • 5+ years real-world experience building full-stack web applications (Plus for production usage of Next.JS)

  • 3+ years of experience with writing production APIs (bonus points for GraphQL).

  • Experience using React, Typescript & Node.JS

  • Experience with database technologies, such as Postgres, MongoDB and Redis (bonus points for MongoDB).

  • Excellent technical communication skills and enthusiasm for writing things down.

  • Enthusiastic about testing and experience using test driven development

  • Prefer simple solutions and designs over complex ones, and have good intuition for what will last and scale.

  • Bonus: Experience with Visual Regression Testing and developing components in isolation before (e.g used Storybook, etc).
